The WonderKids brand was first established for sale at Sears and Kmart stores in 2007--three years after the two retailers merged. The line of clothes and accessories encompasses options like casualwear, footwear, and outerwear for babies, toddlers, and kids. Sears, Roebuck & Company was founded back in 1893 as a mail-order catalog, and it opened its first department stores in 1925. Sears stores became anchors at a number of shopping malls throughout the '60s and '70s, but the retailer was already starting to flounder by the end of the 20th century.
The company that would eventually become Kmart opened its first S.S. Kresge stores in the late 1890s and began the Kmart chain in 1962. One of the biggest retailers in the U.S. until it was surpassed by Walmart in the early '90s, Kmart also began having financial troubles in the early 2000s. In 2005, Kmart announced that it was buying Sears and changing the new parent company's name to Sears Holdings. Today, the retail giant operates more than 4,000 stores across North America--under the mastheads of both Kmart and Sears. In spite of continuing financial struggles, the company is still the 10th-largest retailer in the country, and it sells national brands in addition to manufacturing its own house brands like WonderKids.
Babies and toddlers are the top demographic for WonderKids clothes, and you'll find an extremely broad selection of garments for little ones. Options for tops include graphic tees (both short- and long-sleeved) as well as tanks, tunics, button-down shirts, and cardigans. You'll also find several types of outerwear--from hoodies to jackets. Most of these tops are clearly designed with young kids in mind because they feature whimsical cartoons and/or phrases that are sure to appeal to most little ones. This brand's clothes don't resemble the typical outfits you'll find for toddlers, however, and they tend instead to look like smaller versions of clothes that your elementary-school aged child (or even tween) would wear. In terms of bottoms, WonderKids makes several types of skirts, cargo shorts, jeans, leggings, capris, and more. You can also find dresses of all types for little girls.
In addition to traditional clothes for very young children, WonderKids also features shoes and accessories for older tots. The brand's shoes are almost exclusively for girls, and they range from ballet flats to sandals to Mary Janes to boots. Fun accessories can appeal to both boys and girls, and some of the top sellers include fleece hats modeled after a variety of animals.
The clothes for babies and toddlers offered by WonderKids are unique in that the brand compiles outfits that you don't typically see on kids so young. These garments might specifically appeal to little ones with older siblings who want to dress less like babies. Much of the "cute factor" commonly associated with infant and toddler clothes is sacrificed, however, in the name of style. Since both Sears and Kmart have longstanding histories, you will never need to worry about the quality of WonderKids clothing. You will also find that almost all the options from this brand are very affordably priced--always a plus when shopping for growing youngsters. We give WonderKids 4 stars out of 5.
