U.S. Polo Assn.
Since 1890, the U.S. Polo Assn. has been the official manufacturer of clothes sanctioned by the USPA--the governing body behind the sport of polo in America. The company was created to address the demand for clothing that reflected the true spirit of the sport. Polo is one of the oldest sports on the planet and has been played for centuries across the globe. It combines an appreciation for horses with the spirit of competition, and it has been called the "sport of kings" because of its rich history. While other polo-related brands exist, the U.S. Polo Assn. is the only one that specifically honors the sport as opposed to the overall lifestyle often associated with it.
The U.S. Polo Assn. manages licensing of the USPA's official logos around the world--with subsidiaries in more than 135 countries. The USPA is a for-profit corporation, but a good portion of the company's proceeds go toward worthy causes like youth mentoring, equine welfare, and player safety. The U.S. Polo Assn. has long butted heads with Polo by Ralph Lauren. Litigation has led to rulings that both companies can continue to produce clothing related to the sport as long as they don't encroach upon each other.
Babies & Kids Merchandise
When it comes to clothes for children, the U.S. Polo Assn. heavily favors boys' apparel over options for girls. Unsurprisingly, you'll find a wide selection of polo shirts. Since the manufacturer is devoted to the sport of polo, however, many of its designs feature the logos or insignia of different countries' teams (making it easy for fans to show support for their favorites). The brand also makes graphic tees with USPA logos as well as button-down shirts. Boys' jeans are available in several different washes and styles. Another major focus is outerwear, and the U.S. Polo Assn. makes plenty of warm jackets that blend fashion with functionality. Girls' clothes come and go from the brand's product line, but they usually just include a few different shirt options.
Older boys and girls who can wear men's and women's sizes will have a much wider selection. Women can find polo shirts, tees, oxford shirts, sweaters, dresses, jeans, pants, outerwear, shoes, and accessories. Men's styles are similar to those available for younger boys, but they are available in a wider range of designs and patterns. You'll also find extra options like henleys, sweatshirts, hoodies, underwear, loungewear, shoes, and more.
Though the distinction between polo clothes that accentuate the lifestyle and polo clothes that highlight the sport is likely to be lost on most consumers--especially young children--some people might consider this an important factor in deciding which brand to buy. Other shoppers, on the other hand, are much more likely to care about the look of clothing as well as its functionality and durability. The U.S. Polo Assn. appeals to a variety of audiences because its clothes are simply well designed and well made. It doesn't matter whether you're shopping for a toddler or a teen; it's easy to find garments that will last a long time and remain timeless. It's unfortunate that the brand doesn't manufacture almost any clothes for younger girls, but its women's line is very well stocked for older kids. On the whole, we give the U.S. Polo Assn. 4 stars out of 5.
