Tony Hawk is one of the most influential skateboarders of all time. His passion for skateboarding was ignited when he was just 9 years old and his older brother gave him a beat up skateboard he no longer wanted.

By the time Hawk was 12 years old, he was winning contests around his native California, turning professional when he was 14 and establishing himself as the best competitive skateboarder in the world two years later. By the time Hawk was 25 he had won 73 contests and had been vertical skating world champion 12 years in a row.

One of Hawk’s most celebrated skateboarding tricks is the 900, which involves completing two and a half mid air revolutions on a skateboard. Hawk was the first skater to achieve this feat in 1999.

The famous skater is also very interested in giving back to the skating community and his foundation has donated more than $4 million for projects to build skate parks in underprivileged areas around the United States.

The skateboarding children’s clothing line called Hawk was launched in 1988 with the participation of Hawk’s children.

Quicksilver bought Hawk Designs, Inc. in 2000 and sold it to Cherokee for $19 million in January of 2014. The brand will continue to be sold Kohl’s and also at Target stores around the United States.

Hawk continues to be involved in the brand’s designs and development.

Tony Hawk retired from professional competition after the 1999 X Games, but he continues to be on of the most recognized athletes in the United States. Hawk has received many awards, including the Make-A-Wish Favorite Male Athlete award, the Kids’ Choice Awards Favorite Male Athlete or the Teen Choice Awards Male Athlete
