The brand known simply as SO is owned, manufactured, and exclusively distributed by Kohl's. The line features clothes for girls who wear kids' and adult sizes, and it runs the gamut in terms of affordable styles. The longer version of the brand name is "SO... So Real. So Right." It was first trademarked in 2004 by the Kohl's Corporation.

Kohl's was founded in 1946 by Maxwell Kohl, who operated a small chain of grocery stores in the Milwaukee area of Wisconsin. In 1962, Kohl decided to expand his company and launched the first Kohl's Department Store. Pricing generally fell somewhere in between the discount stores and the high-end department stores, and Kohl's has always remained in that niche. The company was acquired in the early '70s by the British holdings firm BATUS, but it was bought back in 1986 by a group of private investors--led by many executives in Kohl's senior management. Today, the Kohl's Corporation operates more than 1,000 stores across the country and is one of the largest retailers in the U.S. In addition to selling goods from well-known manufacturers, the company also makes several of its own brands, and SO is one of the top lines of clothing for young girls, tweens, and teens.
