Nicknamed “The Flying Tomato” for his shock of red hair, Shaun White is an example of someone who beat the odds and thrived in spite of having a bumpy start in life due to health issues.
Born with a congenital heart defect, White had two open-heart surgeries before he was 5 years old. In spite of his early health issues, he would go on to become a professional snowboarder and skateboarder wining two Olympic gold medals and breaking skateboarding records at the X-Games and the ESPY Awards. White was the first person to compete and win the summer and Winter X Games in two different sports.
In 2008 Shaun partnered with Target to launch a limited edition apparel line for boys and young men. The collection was so well received that it returned in 2009 as a fixed offering all year round.
In 2011, collaborating with his brother Jesse, White designed and launched a home collection for Target with bedding, lighting and other home accessories inspired by the brothers’ love for skating and snowboarding.
The line of clothing Shaun and Jesse White have designed for Target has a definite skateboarding meets snowboarding vibe. The clothes are comfortable and casual made in cotton and performance materials.
Shaun White clothing for Target includes graphic t-shirts with a very specific look to them, with the brand’s signature skating monsters. The apparel is offered in sizes from toddler to 18 years old, with a young man line available too. Shaun White clothes include cool striped shirts and t-shirts, sweatshirts, chino pants and shorts, button down shirts, polo shirts, button down shirts, jeans and lounge wear.
Target also carries a line of Shaun White shoes and accessories such as beanies and baseball caps. The home line has a similar aesthetic with a cool skateboarding and snowboarding theme and reversible comforters, sheets, lamps, duvets and décor, such as piggy banks and trash cans.
Today into skateboarding, tomorrow into Star Wars, that’s part of life when we’re dealing with kids’ preferences, or some may call them obsessions.
We are glad to have brands available, like Shaun White’s, that have a look that is cool, young and hip without being too defined, so when one phase is over, our kids will still be willing to wear the clothes.
It also doesn’t hurt that the Shaun White line for Target is offered at very reasonable prices and has a great selection of apparel, from the chinos and button down shirts to the graphic t-shirts, shorts and shirts. The line of shoes is also a great value, with sneakers and sandals mostly under $30.
We love the aesthetics of the Shaun White clothing with its surfer meets skateboarder and snowboarder look. The swimwear is reminiscent of surf wear that retails at much higher prices. The quality of the garments is not compromised by their price, so the line is a great value for the money. The pieces have a timeless look and they can easily be passed along to younger siblings, or sold at consignment stores, when kids are ready for the next size up.
