The founders of Playskool were two teachers from Wisconsin who knew that children learn better when they are having fun, which is why they blended learning with fun in their toy designs. The company’s first toys came to market in 1929, a year after the company was founded, and they were the Home Kindergarten and the Build at Will Dollhouse.

The innovative way to integrate learning and play has continued throughout the history of Playskool, now part of the Hasbro family of brands.

One of Playskool most iconic toys is without a doubt the Mr. Potato Head series, initially introduced in 1952 as a kit with parts that kids could attach to real potatoes. Mr. Potato Head was also the first toy to be advertised on network television.

Today, Playskool continues to be focused on learning toys geared toward younger children, with a line of Sesame Street toys such as the Let’s Rock Elmo and the Elefun Busy Ball Popper which was named Toy of the Year in 2012.

Products

Following its founders’ philosophy of learning through play, Playskool products are designed for young children, 0 to a little over 3 years old.

The 0 to 12 month selection of toys include the award winning Elefun Busy Ball Popper, a variety of riding toys and its line of Playskool Learnimals, with the ABC Adventure Pink Elephant, the Color Me Hungry Hippo Toy or the Count With Me Giraffalaff Toy, each one designed to make learning the alphabet, colors and counting fun and easy for young babies.

The 1 to 2 year group of toys continues offering some of the riding toys and a variety of variations on the Mr. Potato Head theme with the Marvel Mixable Mashable Heroes with sets in Iron Man, Spider-Man and Doc Ock.

The 2 to 3 group of toys has a variety of board games as well as Elmo train sets and a Marvel Super Hero Adventures Web Racing Funhouse Playset. Playskool also has a selection of toys to help out with the most relevant developmental issues that kids of that age group face, such as Potty Time Elmo, to help with potty training.

For the 3 year old and older group, Playskool has a great selection of Transformers Recue bots as well as Tonka Chuck & Friends vehicles and board games geared toward the growing abilities of this age group.

Swap.com's Rating of Playskool

As parents, we know that playing is an integral part of the intellectual development of our children, so we love toys specifically designed to make learning and playing an integrated process.

Playskool engages the minds of young children with simple and fun toys that enable the little ones to learn their colors, the alphabet, sort shapes and count. These well-designed toys make it easier to enjoy playtime with the little ones while knowing that their brains are being challenged and developed through play.

The ride on toys, the different Busy Ball poppers also encourage young kids to be active and move around, which encourage the development of their fine and gross motor skills.

We love Playskool toys for our younger audience, so we think this brand deserves 5 out 5 stars!
