Founded in 1895 in Oshkosh, Wisconsin, OshKosh B’gosh started manufacturing hickory-striped denim overalls for adults, especially for farmers and railroad workers.

Eventually the company ventured out of its niche and decided to make pint size versions of its denim overalls. Initially the incursion into children’s wear was a minor side business for Oshkosh B’gosh, the new line of children clothing exploded in the late 60s when a pair of child sized overalls was included in the company’s mail order catalog. The denim overalls were ordered by the thousands and the company knew it was on to something.

In 1971 a full line of children’s clothes was launched with Bloomingdale’s as one of its first clients, followed closely by Lord and Taylor, Nordstrom’s and Saks Fifth Avenue.

By 1993, Oshkosh B’gosh main business was its Children’s line, with 95 percent of its sales being in this sector.

In 2005 Oshkosh B’gosh joined the Carter’s company, maintaining its corporate headquarters in Oshkosh. The two clothing companies are the oldest, largest and most recognized brands of children clothing in the world.

Although the denim overall is still the star item in the Oshkosh B’gosh lineup, the company has many other products for children ages newborn to 12 years old.
