Shop Op

The Ocean Pacific clothing label was first introduced in 1972 as a line of apparel that appealed primarily to the surf culture. The brand soon became popular for its ability to translate the clothes beloved by surfers into a fashion statement that transcended the niche. Ocean Pacific went through some tumultuous times in the 1980s and '90s, as it was acquired first by Doyle and Boissiere and then by Warnaco. Today, the label (which now goes by the abbreviated name "Op") is owned by the Iconix Brand Group. Sold exclusively at Walmart stores, it focuses on the demands of surfers both in the water and on land, and it is specifically influenced by the West Coast youth fashion scene. Op officially relaunched in 2009 and has been represented by young celebrities in the fields of TV, music, and movies ever since.

Walmart was founded by Sam Walton in 1962 and quickly grew into a major discount chain. By the 1990s, it was the largest retailer in the U.S. by revenue, and it continued to expand across the globe. Today, Walmart is the world's biggest company and also the largest private employer. It stocks major name brand apparel in addition to selling its own exclusive lines. Op is one of many Walmart brands manufactured by the Iconix Brand Group.

Op offers surf-inspired apparel for both boys and girls. Options for boys include traditional swim shorts as well, as board shorts featuring a variety of colors and patterns. Rash guards are also available, and some shorts and shirts are sold together as sets. Boys' swimwear starts in child sizes and goes up to adult sizes for young men.

For young girls, you'll find swimwear in a variety of different styles, including bikinis, tankinis, and onepiece swimsuits. Surfing girls will find rash guards and active swimsuits that are designed to better stay in place. Older girls can opt for apparel from the Op juniors' collection. Options for swimwear include string bikinis, monokinis, classic bikinis, bandeau tops, and more. Many of these products are specifically built for tweens and teens and include options like push-up cups. You'll also find some options to wear out of the water, including maxi-dresses, t-shirt dresses, and cover-ups. Op makes shoes for both boys and girls--most of which are designed to be worn casually to the pool or beach. Popular styles include flip-flops, water shoes, slingbacks, fashion sandals, skate sneakers, and more.

Swap.com's Rating of Op

While many clothing brands make swimwear in addition to their other offerings, these pieces often seem like something of an afterthought. You might decide that you are more satisfied, therefore, with a brand like Op--which is almost exclusively devoted to beach apparel. Boys will appreciate the assortment of different swimsuit designs and prints. Girls will also find that the brand caters to their unique age ranges. Suits for younger girls are more modest, while juniors' options are sufficiently sexy to appeal to teens. Since Iconix Brand Group has a good reputation for its quality store brands, you can be sure you'll appreciate the construction. We give Op 4 stars out of 5.
