New York & Company
Lerner Shops was founded in 1918 by Samuel Lerner and Harold Lane. After starting their first store in New York, the duo expanded their venture quickly and opened 18 more stores within a year. By 1930, the company had a presence coast to coast and continued to thrive for the next several decades. Limited Brands acquired almost 800 Lerner stores in 1985 and held the brand for the next 17 years. Under its new ownership, the name of the line was changed to Lerner New York in 1992 before being re-branded as New York & Company in 1995.
In 2002, New York & Company parted ways with Limited Brands to become an independent company, and it went public under the ticker symbol NYW in 2004. Since venturing out on its own, the company opened a new flagship store in New York City's fashion district in addition to launching an e-commerce presence. Today, there are about 500 New York & Company stores across the country in addition to several New York & Company outlets in major markets. The brand is committed to bringing the excitement of cosmopolitan style to the rest of the world while also helping women look great and feel confident about themselves.
The selection of women's clothing from New York & Company represents a chic take on casual apparel. Tops include v-necks, blouses, popover shirts, and trapeze tops in fabrics like chiffon, lace, and silk. Tanks, tees, henleys, and even camis take the forms of these basic options while incorporating trendy patterns and colors. You'll also find a range of different sweaters, cardigans, and wraps for light outerwear. Jackets mostly include formal options like blazers and suit jackets, and they are perfect for wearing to work. Dresses run the gamut from sheath dresses to shirt dresses to flare dresses, and they are also best suited for semi-formal or formal occasions.
When it comes to bottoms, New York & Company has plenty of options. Jeans are available in different cuts and colors. Skinny, boot cut, boyfriend, and legging jeans let you choose the style that best complements your figure. Other bottoms are a little trendier and include chinos, trousers, joggers, palazzo pants, gauchos, and leggings. Skirts range from casual and flirty to formal and modest. The brand has ventured into loungewear with its Love, NY&C Collection that features yoga pants, hoodies, streetwear, and more. The Eva Mendes Collection was created by the actress and includes runway-inspired garments like dresses, pant suits, and jewelry. Beyond apparel, New York & Company also manufactures accessories such as bags, belts, watches, scarves, and shoes in addition to beauty items like makeup and perfume.
New Yorkers are renowned for their interest in high fashion, so it makes sense that a mainstream brand intending to bring this sense of style to the rest of the country would become so successful. For almost a century, New York & Company hasn't wavered from its commitment to making high-quality clothes that are on trend and make wearers feel beautiful. The company's list of values defines it as being results-oriented and determined to meet customer desires. Behind the scenes, the organization is also passionate about philanthropy and it donates money and resources to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital and the Breast Cancer Research Foundation. All things considered, we give New York & Company 5 stars out of 5.
