My Little Pony
The My Little Pony franchise launched in 1983 when Hasbro toy developers Bonnie Zacherle, Charles Muenchinger, and Steve D'Aguanno designed the first generation of colorful plastic toys with flowing manes and unique characteristics. Three years later, My Little Pony: The Movie premiered on the big screen, while My Little Pony n' Friends debuted on television. The original toy line remained popular for more than 10 years and spawned several more TV series, direct-to-video films, and more. Though distribution of the toys was temporarily halted in the early '90s, new generations of the line launched before long and introduced the characters to a new audience.
Currently, the franchise is in its fourth incarnation, which began when the TV series My Little Pony: Friendship Is Magic started airing in 2010. The series is set in Ponyville and features six main characters who go on various adventures to emphasize the importance of friendship. The show is produced by Hasbro Studios and has spawned a new generation of My Little Pony toys to cater to fans. The brand has recently begun to build fan bases in previously untapped demographics, including boys and adults. My Little Pony is currently experiencing unprecedented success, and retail sales topped $1 billion in 2014.
Babies & Kids Merchandise
Toys have always been the most popular products related to the My Little Pony franchise, and you can find a wide array of toys based on the latest TV show. Dolls and figurines showcase the ponies as well as their human counterparts--known as the Equestria Girls. Playsets are also available, and many of them are modeled after some of the iconic settings in Ponyville. Soft plush toys in the shapes of favorite characters make great bedtime buddies for young fans. Larger figurines are designed specifically for very young children who show an interest in My Little Pony, and they are made without potentially hazardous parts.
It's easy for aficionados to display their love of My Little Pony with branded items like school supplies, stationery sets, pencils, folders, notebooks and more. You can also find versions of household electronics like headphones, flashlights, boomboxes, and walkie-talkies that feature the characters. Apparel options run the gamut, and they include graphic tees, tanks, hoodies, dresses, pajamas, socks, underwear, leggings, and more for little girls. Shoes, jewelry, and cold weather accessories are also available with licensed designs. If you want to dress up as your favorite My Little Pony character--either for Halloween or just for fun--costumes are also easy to find.
Many of the brands that were popular among kids in the '80s and '90s have experienced a major resurgence recently, and My Little Pony is no exception. The franchise is even bigger today than it was in its original incarnation--in part because so many new parents are excited to share My Little Pony with a new generation. It's easy to find toys, apparel, and other merchandise that can appeal to fans of all ages, and many of the options are very affordable. You'll also find that vintage merchandise is popular via consignment because many items harken back to the brand's previous generations. We give My Little Pony 4.5 stars out of 5.
