Founded in 1987 by fashion designer Mossimo Giannuli, the Mossimo clothing brand operated independently for more than 10 years and became a leading manufacturer of lifestyle sportswear. Mossimo Supply Co. began to face a major decline in sales by the late '90s, and it was eventually sold to the Iconix Brand Group. Under its new ownership, two lines of the Mossimo clothing are exclusively manufactured for sale at Target stores around the country. Mossimo Supply Co. is the more casual label produced under the brand name, and it features laid-back apparel for men, women, and children.

The Iconix Brand Group was initially founded in 1993. This management, licensing, and distribution company is behind many of the house brands featured at Target, Kohl's, Sears, Macy's, and Kmart stores across the country. The Target CorportationCorporation was first established in 1902 by Minnesota entrepreneur George Draper Dayton. After many years spent running the company's original store, Dayton's heirs worked to expand the family business by opening the first Target discount store in 1962. Over the last fifty years, Target has grown into one of the nation's largest retail chains, and it currently operates more than 1,900 stores throughout the United States and Canada. Target puts an emphasis on selling original and exclusive house brands, which is one reason why Mossimo Supply Co. has been so successful over the last decade.

Originally designed for and stocked by surf shops along the west coast, Mossimo Supply Co. continues the brand's original heritage by offering casual apparel. The Mossimo clothing line doesn't have many options for younger kids, but it offers a broad junior’s line for older girls and teens. In the tops category, you'll find camis, tanks, colored tees, blouses, hoodies, tunics, crop-tops, and more. These styles range from very basic solid colors to more ornate patterns and designs. Today, the clothing selections sold under the Mossimo Supply Co. label are certainly alternative--especially the men's options--and some of them won't suit everyone's tastes. Still, the brand offers a very broad selection that ranges from conventional to quirky, so you can find the right clothes for you or your kids by finding your place along the spectrum.
