The Miniwear brand of clothes for babies and toddlers is manufactured for exclusive sale at Babies "R" Us--a division of the larger Toys "R" Us company. Toys "R" Us was founded in 1948 as the Children's Supermart. The original Washington, D.C. store was single-handedly owned and operated by the 25-year-old entrepreneur Charles Lazarus. Since the late '40s marked the height of the baby boom era, Lazarus had plenty of customers looking for everything from cribs and furniture to toys and apparel. It took about 10 years for Lazarus to expand his business, but when he did so, he decided to change the name to Toys "R" Us (spelled with a backward "R"). Through its unique business model and great advertising gimmicks (including the infamous jingle, "I Don't Want to Grow Up, I'm a Toys 'R' Us Kid"), the company grew into a major toy conglomerate by the late 1970s.

Looking to diversify into new ventures, Toys "R" Us launched the offshoots Kids "R" Us in 1983 and Babies "R" Us in 1996. With about 250 retail locations, Babies "R" Us is now the top retailer of specialty baby products in the country. The store is a one-stop shop for expectant parents and new parents. In addition to selling well-known brands, Babies "R" Us offers several exclusive lines as well, including the popular Miniwear.

The clothing selections for infants and toddlers manufactured under the Miniwear label are mostly seasonal and devoted to helping little ones celebrate holidays. Shirts, onesies, and sleepers can be found with prints related to Halloween, Christmas, the Fourth of July, and other special events. You can also find a range of summery outfits for girls, such as dresses, jeans, skirts, rompers, and more--many of which feature floral patterns or embroidery. Options for infant and toddler boys include cargo shorts, polos, graphic tees, sweaters, and vests. The brand also specializes in sleepwear and outerwear for both genders, including garments like footed pajamas, jackets, and snowsuits.

One category for which Miniwear is one of the only brands sold at Babies "R" Us is Halloween costumes. Whether your little one wants to dress up as a favorite animal (such as a giraffe, monkey, kangaroo, lion, or poodle) or wants a more unique costume such as a pea pod, dragon, monster, alien, or jack-o'-lantern, it's easy to find an array of costumes that will be fun to admire while still keeping your tot warm and comfortable.

Swap.com's Rating of Miniwear

While everyday wear is great for young kids, they rarely stay the same size long enough to get multiple uses out of most outfits. One of the fun parts about shopping for clothes from the Miniwear brand is that they are themed to be seasonal, so it doesn't matter when your child outgrows them. From simple outfits like graphic tees to more elaborate options like Halloween costumes, the styles offered by Miniwear are nothing short of adorable, and you will love dressing your little one up in them. Plus, these garments have the great, longstanding reputation of the Toys "R" Us corporation to back them up. We give Miniwear 4 stars out of 5.
