Mimi Maternity Clothing at Discount Prices
For years, Mimi Maternity was one of the main brands of clothes made by Mothers Work. A recent restructuring of the world's largest maternity manufacturer, however, has led to Mimi Maternity being absorbed by A Pea in the Pod. Mothers Work was founded in 1982 by new mom Rebecca Matthias. Frustrated with the selection of maternity clothes that she could find during her first pregnancy, Matthias started her own mail order business to cater to working moms-to-be who needed viable clothing options to wear to the office.
Mothers Work took off during the '80s and '90s, and its founder acquired several competing maternity brands, including A Pea in the Pod and Motherhood Maternity. Having grown into a worldwide enterprise, Mothers Work changed its name to Destination Maternity in 2008. All of its brands, including Mimi Maternity, were shuffled around as a means of simplifying and streamlining the overall business. Today, the parent company owns more than 2,000 retail locations around the world as well as having partnerships with several major department stores. Though Mimi Maternity clothes are no longer produced under that name, you can still find several of the same styles at A Pea in the Pod. Mimi Maternity clothes are also available via resale.
In its heyday, Mimi Maternity set itself apart from other brands for expectant mothers by offering maternity clothes that ranged from traditional to offbeat and slightly bohemian. Tops run the gamut from conservative striped button-downs to blouses with interesting patterns. Fabrics include cotton, lace, silk, and polyester, while clothes feature adornments like embroidery, rhinestones, sequins, and more. The range of styles ensures that it's easy to find an option that suits your tastes--even if they are unconventional. Dresses and skirts are available in both casual and formal varieties and a wide range of styles. You can choose from denim dresses, wrap dresses, summer dresses, eveningwear, and more, making Mimi Maternity the perfect choice for almost any occasion. Fashionable outerwear options like sweaters, blazers, and sweatshirts can be added to other outfits when extra layers are needed.
While Mimi Maternity is better known for its tops than its bottoms, the brand has offered several varieties of jeans, chinos, and slacks that are great for either work or play. Most feature waistbands that are designed to sit either below the belly or mid-belly. The brand also specializes in lingerie for pregnant women and new moms--including sexy sleepwear and nighties as well as functional bras for nursing.
Technically gone but not forgotten, it's easy to understand why Mimi Maternity was one of its parent company's top brands for many years. The broad product line breaks the boundaries of traditional maternity clothes and gives women several options to help them feel stylish while they are expecting. Many of the brand's clothes are also excellent choices to wear to the office--satisfying the original mission of Mothers Work. Even though the Mimi Maternity label isn't made anymore, the current clothes from A Pea in the Pod are very similar and still fill the same niche. When considering Mimi Maternity clothes via resale, you can take comfort in the fact that they have been made by the largest maternity manufacturer in the world and are backed by years of quality and experience. While some clothes are a little offbeat, they are also timeless and unlikely to go out of style any time soon. We give Mimi Maternity 4.5 stars out of 5.
