In 2010, the Material Girl brand was born out of a partnership between Iconix Brand Group and pop sensation Madonna. The collection is sold exclusively by Macy's, Inc. at the company's department stores and online. Designed by Madonna and her daughter, Lourde, this trendsetting brand is positioned toward juniors (ages 16-24). Styles are inspired by music, dance, and celebrities, and the brand is known for its bold and creative statements. Iconix Brand Group manages a diversified portfolio of exclusive clothing lines for a number of major retailers, and some of its other brands include Candie's, Mudd, Joe Boxer, and Mossimo.
R.H. Macy & Co. was founded in 1858 and quickly became a staple in New York City. The retail conglomerate moved to its now-iconic flagship location in 1902 and started to expand to the rest of the country in the 1920s. Following financial difficulties toward the end of the 20th century, Macy's merged with Federated Department Stores in 1994. Over the last two decades, the company has acquired and rebranded several other department store chains, and it currently operates about 850 retail stores across the U.S. Macy's sells major national brands in addition to cultivating exclusive partnerships with companies like Iconix Brand Group.
Material Girl manufactures chic and urban versions of classic garments, and its categories include dresses, tops, pants, activewear, and more. The collection's dresses are available in styles like bodycon dresses, skater dresses, paneled dresses, illusion dresses, and A-line dresses. These designs feature embellishments such as lace, sheer fabrics, unique patterns, cutouts, and more. Material Girl tops are particularly bold. They range from graphic tees and tanks to crop tops, shredded tops, and bustiers. The brand's outerwear options include sweaters, hoodies, cardigans, kimono jackets, and blazers.
Harem pants, printed leggings, and yoga pants are among the most popular Material Girl bottoms. Skirts are also featured, and they include mini, midi, and maxi styles. Jumpsuits include matching tops and bottoms, while rompers are designed for warmer weather. The brand has a number of different activewear options so that you can feel stylish while you work out. Sports bras provide support in a number of different colors and patterns. Exercise leggings and capris also feature bold prints so that you will always stand out. Material Girl shoes primarily accentuate style, and they include pumps, booties, boots, and sandals.
While certain juniors' brands might actually appeal to women of any age, others embrace the unique stylistic preferences of the younger demographic. Material Girl unabashedly caters toward teens and young adults with styles that are made to stand out. The brand's urban flair manifests itself in bold patterns and contemporary designs to help you showcase your feminine swagger. Clothes are suitable for many different occasions--including casual excursions, a hot date, or a night on the town. Material Girl also embraces the active lifestyle led by many of the women in its key demographic, and it offers fun, flirty options to wear to the gym. Since its launch, the brand has sought to be as inclusive as possible, and its garments are available at affordable price points. We give Material Girl 4 stars out of 5.
