In 2010, the Material Girl brand was born out of a partnership between Iconix Brand Group and pop sensation Madonna. The collection is sold exclusively by Macy's, Inc. at the company's department stores and online. Designed by Madonna and her daughter, Lourde, this trendsetting brand is positioned toward juniors (ages 16-24). Styles are inspired by music, dance, and celebrities, and the brand is known for its bold and creative statements. Iconix Brand Group manages a diversified portfolio of exclusive clothing lines for a number of major retailers, and some of its other brands include Candie's, Mudd, Joe Boxer, and Mossimo.

R.H. Macy & Co. was founded in 1858 and quickly became a staple in New York City. The retail conglomerate moved to its now-iconic flagship location in 1902 and started to expand to the rest of the country in the 1920s. Following financial difficulties toward the end of the 20th century, Macy's merged with Federated Department Stores in 1994. Over the last two decades, the company has acquired and rebranded several other department store chains, and it currently operates about 850 retail stores across the U.S. Macy's sells major national brands in addition to cultivating exclusive partnerships with companies like Iconix Brand Group.

Material Girl manufactures chic and urban versions of classic garments, and its categories include dresses, tops, pants, activewear, and more. The collection's dresses are available in styles like bodycon dresses, skater dresses, paneled dresses, illusion dresses, and A-line dresses. These designs feature embellishments such as lace, sheer fabrics, unique patterns, cutouts, and more. Material Girl tops are particularly bold. They range from graphic tees and tanks to crop tops, shredded tops, and bustiers. The brand's outerwear options include sweaters, hoodies, cardigans, kimono jackets, and blazers.

Material Girl also embraces the active lifestyle led by many of the women in its key demographic, and it offers fun, flirty options to wear to the gym.
