Lauren by Ralph Lauren
Clothing magnate Ralph Lauren got his start in the fashion industry in the 1960s. After founding his own necktie label (which he called Polo) in 1967, Lauren quickly found himself on the fast track to success. His innovative polo shirts were introduced in the early '70s and became the building blocks for the new "preppy" look that took shape over the next decade. The designer soon expanded into other categories, including kids' clothes, fragrances, shoes, eyewear, housewares, accessories, and more.
In 1996, the corporation launched its Lauren by Ralph Lauren line of women's apparel. Drawing inspiration from the classic Polo garments, this collection sold mid-priced clothing through various department stores, and it quickly became the company's top brand in the women's sportswear category. Over the next several years, the success of Ralph Lauren continued, as the company went public and started opening stores internationally. Today, the Ralph Lauren Corporation operates more than 200 stores across the country--a mix of Ralph Lauren stores, Polo Ralph Lauren Factory stores, and RRL vintage stores. The company is also well known for its philanthropic endeavors through the Ralph Lauren Foundation. The charity contributes to causes like cancer care, education, and community service in underprivileged communities.
The Lauren by Ralph Lauren women's line offers upscale apparel at prices that are more accessible to average buyers than many of the company's other collections. Tops include knits like crewnecks, henleys, boatneck tops, ballet neck tops, and more. You'll also find tunics, button-down shirts, and blouses made from a variety of quality fabrics. Cardigans and sweaters are available in different cuts and colors, and a variety of light and heavy jackets help provide protection from the elements.
Dresses from Lauren by Ralph Lauren cover the spectrum from casual everyday wear to much more formal evening dresses. Specific styles include sweater dresses, jersey dresses, sleeveless dresses, wrap dresses, evening gowns, and more. The Lauren Jeans Co. is the brand's denim division, and it makes its own versions of all the most popular styles. Choose among slim stretch, skinny, boot cut, and classic straight jeans in a number of different colors and washes. Other bottoms include jumpsuits, twill pants, skinny pants, chinos, shorts, and skirts. The Lauren Active line features athletic capris, pants, shorts, tanks, and shirts for all types of sports. You'll also find an assortment of swimwear--ranging from flirty bikinis to sporty one-piece swimsuits. Sleepwear includes robes, sleep shirts, pajama sets, and nightgowns. Beyond regular apparel, Lauren by Ralph Lauren also makes shoes, handbags, wallets, belts, hats, scarves, and other accessories.
With its designs and its prices, Lauren by Ralph Lauren manages to be a very approachable brand. Tops stray more toward the classic "preppy" look Ralph Lauren is known for, but they also feature an element of fashion that is clearly inspired by the latest trends. Jeans are a little pricier than other casualwear manufacturers, but they are designed to accentuate your form and showcase the hottest styles. Other clothes run the gamut from casual to formal and allow you to choose your favorite garments based on the occasion. Ralph Lauren has established itself as a very trustworthy brand over the last five decades, and you can be sure that the clothing within this collection is made to last. We give Lauren by Ralph Lauren 4.5 stars out of 5.
