Young entrepreneur Leon Levine believed that it was possible to operate a retail store with low overhead, which would sell all of its products for less than two dollars. In 1959, he opened the first Family Dollar store in Charlotte, North Carolina, to test his theory. By maintaining a customer-centric business model, Levine achieved quick success. He started to expand his venture to South Carolina, Georgia, and Virginia, and the company had 27 stores up and running by 1967. After going public in 1970, the chain continued to grow at an astounding pace and reached 1,000 stores by the mid-1980s.

Today, Family Dollar is the second-largest deep-discount retailer in the country, and it operates more than 8,000 stores across the U.S. The company mainly carries name-brand merchandise, but it has also ventured into creating its own in-house brands. Kidgets was created by Family Dollar in 2010 to offer exclusive clothing for newborns, infants, and toddlers. In addition to apparel, the line also includes accessories and household goods like diapers and wipes. The basic goal of the brand was to offer quality products priced at $10 or under so as to give families one more reason to shop at the store.

The line of Kidgets clothing includes practically all the basic items your child needs during the first few years. Options like onesies, footed coveralls, creepers, and pajamas are perfect for very young babies, and they are available in patterns that are either gender-specific or unisex. As your tot starts to get a little bigger, the Kidgets brand clearly divides garments into girls' and boys' categories. Styles for girls include dresses, skirts, leggings, sweatshirts, rompers, cardigans, blouses, tanks, and more. The retailer also specializes in 2- or 3-piece sets that might pair matching items like a shirt and shorts, or a dress, leggings, and cardigan. The outfits are designed to make it as easy as possible for you to dress your little one so she looks her best.

Boys' clothes from Kidgets include options like graphic tees, polos, shorts, pants, button-down shirts, turtlenecks, hoodies, tracksuits, and light jackets. Boys' sets might include two shirts that can be layered together and a pair of shorts or pants. Kidgets also specializes in affordable shoes for both genders, ranging from sneakers to slippers to Mary Janes to sandals.
