Karen Scott is one of the private labels manufactured for exclusive sale at Macy's. The brand features an array of casual apparel for women. Rowland Hussey Macy founded R.H. Macy & Co. in 1858. The entrepreneur moved to New York City after several failed attempts at setting up dry goods stores in Massachusetts, and he opened his first store in Manhattan's Chelsea neighborhood. Business was successful almost immediately, and Macy began to grow the store into neighboring buildings. After ownership passed through the Macy family until the end of the 19th century, the company was sold to brothers Isidor and Nathan Strauss in 1895. In 1902, Macy's moved several blocks uptown to its current flagship location in Herald Square.

Macy's made several acquisitions of department stores in metropolitan centers across the country throughout the first half of the 20th century, but it wasn't until a merger with Federated Department Stores in 1994 that the company began to infiltrate smaller markets. Several more acquisitions over the last 20 years have brought Macy's stores to shopping malls in practically every major region of the country. Today, Macy's operates about 800 stores in the U.S. and is one of the nation's largest department store chains. Macy's is known for its assortment of exclusive brands and private labels, which are sold alongside major name brand merchandise.
