Some of America’s most successful companies started out in garages: Amazon, Google, Apple, Disney, and Mattel to name a few. Hanna Andersson is also among those success stories that took off from a humble garage in Portland, Oregon and grew into a multibillion dollar corporation.

In 1983, husband and wife team Tom and Gun Denhart started a company they named after Gun’s grandmother. Gun had learned from an early age from her Swedish grandmother Hanna about the importance of materials. The original Hanna believed in buying the best quality she could find and using the items for a long time. A concept that resonated with Gun, specially once her own children arrived.

When Gun had her first son and started looking for high quality, beautiful, soft and comfortable cotton clothes for her baby, she realized that there was a lack of retailers that offered what she wanted for her child.

At the end of 1983, Hanna Andersson came out with its first children’s catalog, with clothing manufactured in Sweden and distributed out of the Denhar’s garage. The rest, as they say, is retail history. Today, Hanna Andersson has children and adult’s clothing with stores located around the country.

Without a doubt, the biggest differentiator in Hanna Andersson’s clothing is the softness and quality of its materials.

The company uses organic cotton to manufacture its baby sleepers, turtlenecks, long johns and boxy tees. All these garments are made from 100 percent organic cotton and are certified by Oeko-Tex Standard 100. What that means is that garments go through a rigorous process that tests for more than 100 substances in the clothing before it can be certified. That testing goes beyond the fabric and it includes zippers and buttons too.

Hanna Andersson offers children’s clothes in sizes from 0 to 12 years old. The company’s lineup include: sleepwear, tops, pants, shorts, dresses, underwear, sweaters, jackets, hats, shoes and a variety of accessories, from headbands and jewelry to sunglasses. Hanna Anderson also offers the Jellycat of London line, with an assortment of super soft, washable corduroy stuffed animals.

The company’s clothing is designed to be fun, with vibrant colors and whimsical patterns, and always fits comfortably while always being age appropriate

Swap.com's Rating of Hanna Andersson

It’s easy to fall in love with the luxurious feel of butter soft cotton and the classic designs in the Hanna Andersson line of clothing. The company’s pajamas for children and adults are the softest and most comfortable we’ve tried. We also love that they come in the same pattern from size 0 to adult. It is a fun way to get that one-of-a-kind family photo for posterity with everyone wearing the same clothes, and looking great!

On the other hand, what makes this brand so special and what has us hooked on it is its deep connection to the community. The company donates a portion of every purchase to support children in need and has established its Hanna Helps Program to grant awards to nonprofit groups around the United States that work to improve children’s lives and their future
