Founded in 1979 as a division of Lucasfilm, Pixar first became an independent company in 1986 after a major investment by Apple co-founder Steve Jobs. Pixar was the first studio to use computers as an animation medium, and it made headlines during its first decade for all the ways that it innovated rendering technology. The 1988 Pixar short Tin Toy was the first computer-animated film to ever win an Oscar, and its success set the stage for Disney and Pixar to team up and create the first ever computer-generated feature-length film. In 1995, Toy Story was released in theaters and was the top-grossing movie of the year. Disney and Pixar continued to team up over the next decade to produce films like A Bug's Life, Tog Story 2, Monsters, Inc., Finding Nemo, and The Incredibles.
Though Disney and Pixar almost went their separate ways after creative differences pulled the two studios apart, Disney ended up purchasing Pixar outright in 2006 and incorporating it into the Disney family of brands. Now known as Disney-Pixar, the studio has continued to release some of the most critically-acclaimed and commercially successful movies of the last decade, including Up, WALL-E, Toy Story 3, Brave, and the Cars franchise. In addition to movies, Disney-Pixar has a major presence at the Disney theme parks around the world and has a very profitable consumer products division.
Babies & Kids Merchandise
The vast array of merchandise based on your favorite Disney-Pixar movies includes options like toys, clothing, accessories, and home décor items. You'll find dolls and plush toys designed after characters from the hit films, including the Disney Princess Merida; the lovable fish Nemo, Dory, and Marlin; and toys like Woody, Jessie, and Buzz Lightyear. Also available are action figures, playsets, and more, so that kids can feel like they're jumping into their favorite movies. Since the Cars films are so popular among little ones, you can find an entire category of toys based on this particular franchise--including toy cars that can be wheeled around on tracks and remote-control cars.
In terms of apparel, costumes are among the hottest Disney-Pixar items because many children love being able to dress up as these movie characters for Halloween (or just for playtime). You can also find themed options like graphic tees, hoodies, pajama sets, underwear, socks, swimwear, and more. Accessories include shoes, watches, backpacks, luggage, and all sorts of other options. You can also find home décor items such as bedding, kitchenware, and bath towels, as well as school supplies for any young Disney-Pixar fan.
In an age when so many of the movies and TV shows produced for kids are pure dreck, Disney-Pixar exists as an example of how great family entertainment can be if it's done correctly. Over the last two decades, the studio has almost never wavered from its devotion to excellent storytelling and lovable characters, which is one of the many reasons why these films are so popular among both kids and adults. With such a great catalog of titles, it only makes sense that your little one would want to showcase his or her love for a certain Disney-Pixar film with merchandise based on the characters. From toys to apparel, the selection of Disney-Pixar products runs the gamut, and it's easy to find the options that will appeal to your little one the most. Disney is extremely protective of its brands, so you can also be sure that the manufacturers the company agrees to work with will turn out top-notch products. We give Disney-Pixar 5 stars out of 5.
