Marvin and Helene Gralnick opened a boutique called Chico's Folk Art Specialties on Florida's Sanibel Island in 1983. Though their store mostly sold art at first, a small collection of sweaters quickly became a bestseller, so the duo rebranded their store as a clothing boutique. The Gralnicks slowly expanded their venture locally before starting to franchise the Chico's brand in 1989. The corporation was renamed Chico's FAS (abbreviating "Folk Art Specialties"), and it went public in 1993. With boutiques scattered across the country, the company's popularity skyrocketed--and its earnings followed suit. Chico's FAS acquired other brands like White House | Black Market, Boston Proper, and Soma Intimates.
Chico's continues to be the parent company's top property. The brand's chic designs are unique, fashionable, and comfortable. In addition to its main line, Chico's also sells specialty collections like So Slimming, the luxury Black Label, Zenergy activewear, and Travelers clothes for women on the go. Chico's touts its associates as style experts and relies on its employees to help customers build a coordinated wardrobe. Today, Chico's operates more than 700 boutiques nationwide in addition to maintaining a monthly catalog and e-commerce presence. Chico's FAS is also well-known for its philanthropic endeavors--specifically its support of Living Beyond Breast Cancer and the Children's Miracle Network Hospitals.
Chico's features eclectic versions of traditional styles, and much of its apparel sports bold colors and/or patterns inspired by its folk art roots. Jackets include blazers, kimono jackets, bomber jackets, vests, sweater jackets, and more. These outerwear options can be layered with Chico's tops--including button-down shirts, short- and long-sleeved tees, pullovers, floral tops, cardigans, blouses, tunics, tanks, and polos. Dresses range from causal to a more formal, and they are available in styles like maxi dresses, wrap dresses, utility dresses, shift dresses, ponte dresses, and more.
The brand's bottoms include crop pants, palazzo pants, jogger pants, and jeans. So Slimming is one of the Chico's specialty lines, and it features pants with Hidden Fit Technology to shape and flatten in addition to super-stretch fabric that moves with ease. The brand's Travelers collection provides the perfect options to pack for your next trip. Fabric is wrinkle-resistant and designed to reduce bulk in your suitcases. Some garments include pants, jackets, tops, and dresses. The Zenergy activewear line features athletic shirts, jackets, and hoodies in addition to jogger pants, athletic leggings, and shorts. The Chico's Black Label exudes luxury through its dresses, fashion tops, stylish pants, and jewelry. Shoes are available in styles like heels, wedges, sandals, and ballet flats, and you'll also find accessories including sunglasses, scarves, hats, and handbags.
The Chico's line of women's apparel is very clearly inspired by the tropics, and most garments will make a bold statement with their bright colors and patterns. They also infuse a chic sense of style, however, to set the company apart from other "beach brands." The women who love Chico's apparel are drawn to its carefree designs that accentuate comfort in addition to fashion. Many garments are loose and flowing, while form-fitting clothes are made to be flexible and easy to wear. The Chico's specialty collections address unique needs, and they can help women feel as confident as possible about their appearance--no matter what the situation. On the whole, we give Chico's 4.5 stars out of 5.
