Basic Editions is one of the top exclusive brands manufactured for sale at Kmart and Sears stores. It includes a wide range of garments for men, women, and children. The company that would eventually grow into Kmart was founded in 1912 by Sebastian Kresge. After a rough few decades, the S.S. Kresge Corp. opened its first Kmart store in 1962 and quickly grew into one of the nation's top discount retailers. The company peaked in the late 20th century and had started to decline by the early 2000s (filing for bankruptcy in 2002).

Sears, Roebuck, & Co. was founded as a mail-order catalog in 1893. After opening its first retail stores in the early 1900s, the company found its niche in both urban and suburban markets. The retailer's heyday occurred in the mid-20th century, when it had stores in almost every major shopping mall in America. Like Kmart, however, Sears started to go downhill around the year 2000. Making a last-ditch effort to save both companies, Kmart acquired Sears in 2004 and renamed the parent corporation Sears Holdings. Under new leadership, the two retailers started selling several of their exclusive lines at both stores. Business steadily improved, and Sears Holdings is one of the top retail corporations in the U.S. today. It operates about 4,000 locations under the Sears and Kmart mastheads.

Sweaters and cardigans are also available as trendy outerwear. Leggings and jeggings are the most popular bottoms from this collection, and you'll find a wide range of patterns and designs. Shorts, skirts, and sundresses are all perfect for summer wear. In terms of accessories, options for girls include tights, stockings, and lightweight bras.

Swap.com's Rating of Basic Editions

It's clear that the makers of the Basic Editions kids' line really tried to differentiate it from the adult clothes sold under the same label. These styles do an excellent job accentuating the spirit of youth with garments that are colorful and fun in addition to being stylish. The girls' collection will appeal to little ones who love expressing their femininity through neons, pastels, and various prints. As one of the top exclusive lines from Kmart and Sears, you can be sure that these clothes are build to last. We give the Basic Editions brand 4 stars out of 5.
