In 1954, entrepreneur Richard Liebeskind opened the first Ann Taylor store in New Haven, Connecticut. Not actually named after anyone in particular, the "Ann Taylor" was a style of dress that was popular at the time and represented the typical well-dressed woman. Over the next two decades, Ann Taylor grew at a relatively conservative pace. The brand always tried to remain on trend without ever being too "trendy," and it changed and adapted with the times. During the 1980s, Ann Taylor finally began to expand more quickly and established itself as a national brand.
Ann Taylor LOFT was launched as a sub-brand in 1996. Designed to appeal to a slightly younger demographic, collections were more relaxed and casual, and they struck a chord with a new generation of shoppers. The new line developed its own unique identity, and the Ann Taylor name was eventually dropped. Today, parent company Ann, Inc., operates more than 500 LOFT stores and more than 100 LOFT Outlets across the country. The brand also has a retail presence in more than 100 countries worldwide via its ecommerce sites. LOFT is committed to offering clothes that are versatile, affordable, and accessible while always maintaining a distinctly feminine flair. It continues to gain popularity year after year and has been named one of the fastest growing brands in America.
One of the key reasons why LOFT appeals to such a wide array of individuals is the fact that its clothes are incredibly diverse. Options range from casual everyday wear to semiformal and formal apparel for work and special occasions. In terms of tops, you'll find tees, tanks, camis, blouses, tunics, button-down shirts, shells, and more. Light outerwear includes sweatshirts, sweaters, cardigans, and pullovers. Raincoats, denim jackets, anoraks, blazers, and trench coats are all available for harsher weather. Dresses are divided into three categories: weekend, day, and occasion. Weekend dresses are the most casual, and they include maxi dresses and shirtdresses. Day dresses would be suitable to wear to work and are available in styles like fit-and-flare dresses and shift dresses. Occasion is more formal and designed for a night on the town. Styles include illusion dresses and club dresses.
Pants run the gamut, from capris to trousers to boyfriend cuts. They range from statement pants that define your outfit to subtler dress pants that are relatively muted. Jeans are a separate category entirely, and they include skinny, super-skinny, straight, ankle, and boot cuts in a variety of washes. LOFT work apparel--such as slacks, pencil skirts, suits, and more--is all set apart so that it's easy to mix and match items based on your dress code. The brand also features a broad collection of shoes and accessories.
Certain brands can practically define groups of people, and LOFT basically represents the essence of young professionals in their 20s and 30s. It's almost impossible to walk down the street or step into any office without spotting several women wearing the manufacturer's apparel. LOFT has figured out a way to connect with this demographic, in particular, by offering clothes that are unique without being too flashy, in addition to being comfortable and affordable. Whether you are looking for a casual top, a complete outfit to wear to work, or a dress for a night out, LOFT has several options for you to consider. Because of its versatility and quality, we give LOFT 5 stars out of 5.
