our story

Swapping is happening all around us: between family members, around the neighborhood, at your kid’s school, and among other social networks. We may not call it swapping every time it happens, but that's exactly what it is when your daughter swaps her snack for her friend's. Or when you get last season's snow boots from your neighbor whose kids outgrew them. Once you recognize it, you can see it everywhere you look.

For thousands of years, people have used swapping as a way of building their communities. Before there was currency, there was swapping – the original form of commerce. Today, Swapping is in vogue and it is the essence of Social Commerce. A lot of people have a lot of stuff, the equivalent of trillions of dollars' worth of merchandise. Most of your stuff is useful, but much of it is also probably not utilized at all. Your unused stuff is of great value to someone somewhere, and can be used as currency to get additional things you want.

Swapping is incredibly useful and valuable. But how can reliably find out about the valuable stuff people have? The problem is, because swapping happens between people in every corner of the world, there hasn’t been one definitive resource to help. Your swapping opportunities have really only been as good as the number of people you can reach out to in your network of friends and neighbors. That is, until now.

Swap.com is leading the swap movement both online and in communities across the world. We bring people together to swap their stuff through our website, mobile app, local events, homes, schools, and co-branded partnerships.

The Swap.com platform and community enhances your swap opportunities - which maximizes your swap value. And the best part is... the only cost is for shipping your item to your swap partner (if applicable). No catch. We truly believe swapping should be free. So it is.

Swap.com is a privately held company headquartered in Boston, MA. For more information, visit www.swap.com, follow us on Twitter at www.twitter.com/swap, or visit us on Facebook at www.facebook.com/swapcom.

Happy swapping!

Guitarj56 - "Found Swaptree while reading a review at Amazon. I have been a Swaptree member over a year now. I have traded CDs and books that I thought nobody wanted, for CDs and DVDs and books that are out of this world!"

infinity217 - "Where else can you find the items you want for dirt cheap? I have really enjoyed my experience with Swaptree and I won't go anywhere else! I am a member for LIFE!! Thanks Swaptree!"
